Singapore Work Permit is a permit issued to foreign workers from other countries to work legally in Singapore. It is most commonly given to people working in professions such as construction, shipyard workers, manufacturing, and services. Key Work Permit Changes in Singapore

From 1 July 2025, Singapore will eliminate the top employment limit for Work Permit holders. Previously, foreign workers could remain for a limited number of years based on their industry. Currently, they can keep working provided they are eligible under MOM’s rules and have valid employment.

The age limits are being adjusted as well. From 2025, new Singapore Work Permit applicants can be up to 61 years old, and existing workers can have their current permits extended up to age 63. This amendment also has the same retirement as  the national retirement age.

Many other countries are now also being added to the Non-Traditional Source (NTS) list, such as Bhutan, Cambodia, and Laos, so employers have more options to choose from when they are hiring . Many opportunities are also being created  to the list to cover more occupations such as drivers, cooks, and machine operators.

Eligibility Criteria for Singapore Work Permit

To fulfill the criteria for eligibility one needs to obtain Singapore Work Permit under the 2025 regulations such as:

  • Not more than  the age of 61 while applying.
  • Should be a citizen from approved source country.
  • Should posses a valid job offer in an occupation allowed by MOM.
  • Employ with an employer who meets levy and quota requirements.
  • Pass a medical checkup and have a valid passport.
  • Meet all Singapore Work Permit conditions issued by MOM (no unauthorized work or job hopping without approval).

Can I work in Singapore for more than 14 years now?

From 2025 July, the years of service limit will be removed. You can work as long as you comply with all MOM rules.

What if I am 62 years old already?

You can extend your Singapore work permit to 63, but new applications need to be 61 or younger.

Do the new rules apply to domestic workers?

No, the new rules do not apply to migrant domestic workers.
